- understanding your needs, goals, and circumstances
- ensuring the advice provided is suitable and within the agreed scope

- explaining recommendations and associated risks in a way you can understand
Further information regarding financial adviser duties is available from the Financial Markets Authority.
Fees and Charges
In most cases, we do not charge clients a fee for mortgage advice services. This is because we generally receive commission from the lender once a loan has settled.
However, in limited circumstances, a fee may apply.
Situations Where Fees May Apply
Where No Commission is Paid
If you request advice for a lending product where no commission is payable to us by the lender, we may charge a one-off advisory fee.
Any fee would be discussed with you in advance and confirmed in writing prior to engagement.
Clawback of Commission
If a lender requires repayment of commission within 24 months of settlement (commonly known as a clawback), we may charge a fee to recover part or all of the commission repaid.
Any such fee will:
- not exceed $2,500 plus GST;
- be calculated at a rate of $250 plus GST per hour; and
- never exceed the amount of commission required to be repaid to the lender.
Invoices issued for such fees are payable within 30 days.
Conflicts of Interest and Commission
How We Are Paid
We generally receive commission from lenders when a loan settles. This may include:
- an upfront commission based on the loan amount;
- a trail commission paid over time; and/or
- a refix or rollover fee where applicable.
To manage any potential conflicts of interest, we:
- recommend products based on your needs and objectives;
- maintain access to a broad panel of lenders;
- ensure lending recommendations are appropriate to your circumstances; and
- follow internal compliance and advice processes designed to prioritise client interests.
Specific commission rates may vary between lenders and products. Full disclosure of applicable commissions will be provided once your loan structure and lender selection have been confirmed.
Referral Commissions
Day One Mortgages & Insurance may receive referral commissions from selected insurance providers or insurance advisers where a referral results in a completed service.
We do not receive referral fees from solicitors, accountants, or investment advisers.
